“Cards” are a popular way for cities and regions to give tourists a bit of a break on prices. The newly introduced CentroCard is valid for 6 months from the date of purchase and promises some pretty good value for the tourist visiting the Centro region of Portugal.
For example, the Centro card will allow you a 10% discount on accommodations at a Pousada, a string of historic inns with restaurants, a concept that is one of Portugal’s great tourism successes. You should really try to stay in at least one on your Portugal vacation. In any case you’ll also receive 5% off meals, and I haven’t had a bad meal in a Pousada yet.
According to the Pousada web site:
CentroCard holders must mention in the reservation that they hold the card and they must present it as they check check-in in the Pousada (otherwise they will not benefit from the discount).
What do these discounts cost you? A card for a single person runs you a mere 5 Euros. For a couple, 7 Euros, and for a family with two children under 12 years of age, 9 Euros.
You can also save 10% on select hotels in the Centro region. (For a romantic hideaway hotel amidst a fantastic garden, I highly recommend the Hotel Quinta das Lágrimas in Coimbra, a very highly rated hotel by those who’ve stayed there, and a participant in the card offer.)
Don’t know the Centro region? It’s a favorite of mine, which includes some spectacular rural spaces like the Schist Villages and the Serra de Estrela park. See our Portugal Regions Map for more, or read our articles on the Centro Region
To find out more about the CentroCard, see Centro Card from the Centro Tourism Office. Right now there’s only the Portuguese version, but it’s easy to figure out.
You can purchase a CentroCard at Centro Tourism offices, listed here.
